About Us:
Established in 1982, Armand Hammer United World College (UWC-USA) is part of the renowned United World College movement, which aims to transform education into a powerful force for uniting individuals, nations, and cultures in pursuit of peace and sustainability. At UWC-USA, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, and access, aligning with our mission to bridge divides and cultivate a more harmonious world. Our students come from over 150 countries, with approximately 85% receiving scholarships, contributing to an extraordinary blend of national and socioeconomic diversity. Our academic program emphasizes expeditionary, place-based, and experiential learning, complemented by a robust residential curriculum in a multicultural boarding setting. We challenge our students, faculty, and staff to expand their horizons within a community committed to democratic principles reflective of our cultural heritage.
Our Educational Goals:
In response to the global challenges posed by contemporary issues, UWC's mission continues to address the need for unity among young people before biases form. Our focus on fostering peace and sustainability is crucial as we confront identity-based divisions such as nationality, culture, ethnicity, and more. Current global challenges include:
- Economic, political, and social inequality affecting marginalized communities.
- Political polarization driven by divergent ideologies and grievances.
- Climate change and environmental degradation stemming from unsustainable practices.
- Rapid technological advancements reshaping our interactions and workplaces.
Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the UWC-USA program will focus on equipping students to tackle these pressing global issues through biweekly engagements with local organizations and institutions in northern New Mexico.
