Position Summary
This role involves professional legal work as a research assistant to the judges of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania. The position requires supporting the judiciary in drafting and preparing briefs, opinions, and related documents.
Confidentiality and Discretion
As per the directive of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, effective September 1, 2005, all law clerks are prohibited from representing clients in the division or section of the court where they are employed. This also applies to courts without established divisions.
The Judicial Law Clerk is a confidential employee, serving at the discretion of the judge.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on statutory laws, judicial decisions, and precedents relevant to ongoing cases.
- Review legal records and documents to gather pertinent case data.
- Draft preliminary versions of judicial opinions.
- Organize and maintain comprehensive files of case documents and correspondence.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide general information regarding assigned tasks and engage in related work as necessary.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in standard courtroom and clerical office settings with direct interaction with a diverse court clientele.
