In this creative role, you will closely follow references and adhere to our art direction to design levels that resonate with the game's atmosphere, narrative, and aesthetic. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and embellish environments to enhance gameplay readability, facilitate player navigation, and support visual storytelling.
- Ensure visual fidelity and consistency of levels in line with project quality standards and art direction.
- Collect and organize reference materials for environment assets.
- Adhere to studio pipelines, naming conventions, and asset management protocols.
- Construct and adapt modular environment assets to create architectural and environmental settings.
- Create visual breakdowns, reference boards, and asset lists as needed.
- Provide support to the Lead Level Artist in production and artistic tasks.
- Integrate environment assets and textures into the game levels.
- Collaborate with Tech Art and Design teams to optimize levels for performance, focusing on draw calls, LODs, and streaming.
- Set up asset properties related to visuals and performance, including LODs, collisions, and materials.
- Assist in bug fixing and achieving visual polish throughout production and testing phases.
- Evaluate level quality within the engine and implement necessary enhancements.
Qualifications:
- Proficient understanding of architectural and natural environment composition, scale, and structure.
- Knowledge of principles for gameplay readability, player navigation, and visual guidance.
- Experience in optimizing levels for real-time engines (LOD, draw calls, streaming, etc.).
- Strong modeling skills for creating modular environment assets.
- Proficiency in Maya and/or Blender.
- Experience with material blending and vertex painting techniques.
- Expertise in Unreal Engine or comparable real-time engines.
- Familiarity with Substance Painter/Designer.
- Understanding of physically based rendering (PBR) workflows and material standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail and consistency with the project's artistic style.
- A collaborative spirit with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Insight into material optimization techniques for real-time engines.
- Basic knowledge of lighting principles with experience in adjusting lighting in real-time engines.
- Experience using procedural tools like Houdini is a plus.
- Previous involvement in shipped titles.
