In this pivotal role, you will operate under the guidance of the Assistant General Counsel, providing essential support to our legal team. Your responsibilities will include conducting legal research and writing, offering litigation support (such as database management and discovery), preparing regulatory filings, and responding to information requests, all while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you will oversee processes, policies, and standards for departmental support staff, track progress towards business objectives, manage the budget for the business unit, and supervise non-attorney staff and contractors. You will play a key role in developing support staff, optimizing the use of legal resources to minimize external legal costs, and facilitating the internal continuing legal education program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage a team of paralegals, administrative staff, and contractors to ensure timely and accurate completion of daily tasks. You will be responsible for developing employee work assignments, providing direction and guidance, identifying training needs, coaching, and offering constructive feedback on performance. You will also make recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, and other personnel matters, while ensuring an equitable workflow. Additionally, you will help develop and maintain departmental policies and standards.
- Oversee departmental functions, including responses to records requests and subpoenas, management of corporate legal agreements (such as NDAs, copyright agreements, law firm engagement letters, and consulting agreements), and contracting for electronic legal research services, providing direct support for critical initiatives as necessary.
- Deliver paralegal services to attorneys and provide backup support for other legal staff as needed.
- Assist with significant corporate functions and committees requiring analytical work and complex legal services.
- Act as a subject matter expert on legal compliance issues.
