At Uncommon Schools, our Middle School Mathematics Educators collaborate within grade-level teams to foster self-directed learning among students. Each math class is imbued with a passion for the subject, as our educators continually refine their mastery of mathematics. Utilizing diverse instructional strategies, math teachers inspire students to develop problem-solving skills and a resilient mindset. By the end of eighth grade, our students are equipped for the academic independence and college readiness demanded by our high schools.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction
- Deliver foundational middle school mathematics concepts, including ratios/proportions, expressions/equations, and the number system.
- Implement our proprietary CCSS-aligned math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
- Encourage students to engage deeply with problems and explore multiple solution pathways.
- Use your enthusiasm for mathematics to build student confidence and meaningful engagement.
2. Data-Driven Instruction
- Engage in weekly meetings with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work samples and assessment trends.
- Adopt and adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners in your classroom.
3. Cultivating School Culture
- Establish positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and understood.
- Collaborate with families to ensure resources are available to support their child’s learning needs.
- Participate in professional development, mentorship, and coaching opportunities.
- Attend weekly school-wide meetings to foster community, embody our core values, and promote student achievement.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional practices.
