Key Responsibilities:
- Administer gadolinium contrast intravenously while screening for allergies and contraindications.
- Position patients on the examination table and ensure the coil is placed near the area of interest, following exam protocols and consulting with the radiologist regarding any questionable orders.
- Input necessary data, including anatomical areas to be scanned and orientation, into the computer system.
- Communicate effectively with patients before the procedure to obtain medical history, explain potential risks, and set expectations; maintain communication during the procedure to monitor their safety and comfort.
- Input commands for MRI scan sequences, adjusting parameters and slice positioning according to the exam requirements and patient anatomy.
- Inform patients and staff about the dangers of metal near the magnet.
- Review scanned images on a video display screen to ensure image quality.
- Ensure patients complete the MRI screening form, reviewing it for contraindications and discussing it verbally with patients before signing. Investigate and clear any potential ferromagnetic foreign objects or implants before exposing patients to the magnetic field.
- Coordinate exam schedules, prioritize urgent cases, and obtain preliminary readings as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and equipment, replenishing supplies as needed.
- Adhere to MRI safety guidelines and policies, ensuring safe entry of all individuals and items into the MRI environment.
- Accurately order exams in the HIS/RIS system, ensuring correct billing and tracking.
- Initiate service calls for equipment malfunctions.
