This is a full-time, salaried position requiring 40 hours per week at the Lake Forest hospital campus. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. This role primarily involves triage responsibilities, including responding to patient inquiries and messages via phone and the Epic EMR system.
The Nurse Clinician embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM), adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- The Nurse Clinician will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with patients, physicians, and clinical and administrative staff. Utilizing nursing skills, the clinician will conduct patient assessments via phone or in-person and implement nursing interventions, requiring sound judgment, independent thinking, and creativity in resolving patient care issues. This role is also responsible for initiating and organizing patient education for the demographics served by the unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment. Comply with OSHA regulations and report any deficiencies immediately to a supervisor. Assist in rectifying deficiencies as required and supervise the appropriate care of medical equipment.
- Provide pre-attending care for patients. Conduct comprehensive assessments of patient needs using the nursing process for each patient. Based on findings, collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to devise solutions. Document all nursing assessments in the patient's medical record, ensuring clarity and confidentiality in all documentation.
- Perform routine nursing duties and demonstrate clinical competency. Independently carry out routine nursing tasks, including phlebotomy, medication administration, vital sign measurements, and lab specimen preparation. Show clinical competency in performing specialized procedures, such as conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, and wound management.
- Interpret and address abnormalities indicated by tests and procedures. Document all interventions appropriately in the patient’s medical records, ensuring all documentation is clear and complete.
- Communicate and collaborate with other departments. Effectively engage in communication and collaboration with various departments to provide optimal patient care.
