The Operations Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing operational efficiency across Apex Clean Energy’s assets in Illinois, ensuring that all sites achieve peak performance. This position is focused on electrical work related to the maintenance, operation, and repair of substations and other Balance of Plant electrical equipment, while also providing support to a region-wide team of Site and Facility Managers across various utility-scale wind and solar sites. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations within our Asset Management department, the Operations Specialist will employ comprehensive project planning and management practices to proactively monitor, anticipate, and mitigate risks, ensuring safety, minimizing downtime, and consistently delivering exceptional results for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct highly skilled electrical work in the maintenance, operation, and repair of substations and other Balance of Plant electrical systems.
- Oversee and operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that manages the electric distribution system and switching operations.
- Utilize expertise in electronics and electrical systems to diagnose and rectify issues.
- Assess and monitor unusual system conditions, manage routine preventative maintenance programs, and establish ongoing operating procedures.
- Employ a variety of electrical testing instruments such as meggers, portable transformer gas analyzers, volt meters, resistivity and conductivity meters, and current meters for troubleshooting and non-destructive testing of substations.
- Review and evaluate the performance of team members.
- Provide regional support to site managers as required for project sites located just south and east of Bloomington, Illinois, with occasional travel to support additional projects in Illinois as necessary.
