As a crucial member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant is primarily tasked with supporting physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical personnel by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing associated administrative functions. This role is pivotal in ensuring a smooth patient experience by maintaining organized and safe care areas, promoting patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates efficient patient flow: Escorts patients to exam rooms, verifies identities using two identifiers, and prepares them for examinations. Collects and documents vital signs according to organizational standards, updates visit reasons, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information, promptly notifying the provider or registered nurse of any significant changes.
- Assists practitioners during medical and surgical procedures as per established protocols, including electrocardiograms (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, and specimen collection.
- Ensures high-quality care by preparing and stocking exam rooms, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment, maintaining medication inventories, and adhering to office procedures.
- Functions as an integral part of the patient care team, promoting satisfaction through professional interactions and effective communication with patients and team members.
- Performs delegated procedures consistent with specialty practices in a safe and efficient manner.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
