The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) plays a pivotal role in the City’s evolving criminal justice system. Engaging in reform initiatives and strategies, the DOC aims to transition towards a more compact jail system while prioritizing public safety. Our primary responsibility is to foster a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, volunteers, and individuals in our custody. By ensuring safety, we empower those in custody with the necessary tools and opportunities for successful reintegration into their communities. The DOC operates various facilities and court commands across the five boroughs, employing over 7,500 dedicated professionals and experts in their fields.
We are currently looking for skilled psychologists to join our team. Under general supervision and with the autonomy to make independent decisions, the selected candidate will engage in professional work within the realm of psychology. This will involve conducting clinical interviews, as well as selecting, administering, and interpreting standard group and individual tests focused on personality development and intellectual capacity. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assessing individuals’ psychological suitability for the positions of Correction Officer and/or Special Officer
- Providing psychological evaluations for DOC staff as needed, in collaboration with the Health Management Division
- Maintaining accurate records and files
- Compiling comprehensive reports of psychological findings
- Participating in psychological and general staff meetings
- Possibly testifying in court or at other hearings when required.
