Girard College is a prestigious full scholarship boarding school dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity, social development, and emotional growth among academically focused students from underserved communities. Our mission is to provide every student with the resources and opportunities they need to excel and prepare for advanced education through intentional academic and residential programs.
We are on the lookout for passionate and dedicated part-time Residential Advisors for our Weekend Program, serving grades 1-12. Ideal candidates are committed to the success and well-being of the children in their care, relishing the opportunity to supervise, mentor, and engage with students outside the classroom.
The anticipated schedule for one female and one male advisor per shift is as follows, with the Weekend Program for the 2024/2025 school year set to commence on October 4, 2024:
Shift 1 (16 hours per week) – Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 3 pm
Shift 2 (18 hours per week) – Friday from 5 pm to 11 pm, Saturday from 3 pm to 11 pm, and Sunday from 3 pm to 7 pm
Key Responsibilities of a Residential Advisor Include:
- Facilitate academic success through regular interaction with teachers and caregivers.
- Support the curriculum with homework assistance and out-of-school programs.
- Instruct and guide students in Residential/Life Skills and Social Emotional Learning Curriculums.
- Create a supportive and nurturing living environment for students.
- Oversee student wake-up and activities during weekend hours.
- Accompany and supervise students during brunch and dinner.
- Engage actively in weekend activities, including community service projects and transportation support as needed.
- Uphold the College’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Serve as a positive role model for students at all times.
- Attend scheduled meetings as required.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, families, and the Girard College community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Prior experience in child care or supervision of children is essential.
- A minimum of an associate’s degree is required (or working towards one).
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.
