A licensed, clinically proficient professional, the Respiratory Care Practitioner administers respiratory care to acutely ill patients through comprehensive assessment, planning, evaluation, intervention, and treatment. Effective interaction with patients, their families, and healthcare team members is essential, providing care within the established scope of training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit competency in all adult medical-surgical units, administering various respiratory therapies and modalities.
• Implement and adhere to adult respiratory protocols, policies, and guidelines as mandated in medical-surgical units.
• Deliver and assess the effectiveness of prescribed therapies, adjusting frequencies as necessary.
• Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions accurately to the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families about respiratory disease management, community support groups, and available resources.
• Demonstrate proficiency across all adult care settings, including medical-surgical units, emergency departments, critical care units, and other areas as required by the hospital.
• Respond effectively to clinical emergencies.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, fostering collaboration within the healthcare team.
• Evaluate and apply respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
• Mentor and precept students.
• Serve as a positive role model for colleagues by fostering teamwork and cooperation, consistently upholding the NM Code of Professionalism.
