The Ultrasonographer plays a vital role in embodying the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM). This position requires adherence to NM's Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, and compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patient needs, assess requests for diagnostic ultrasound services, and determine the most suitable method for application.
- Prepare necessary equipment and accessories, ensure sterile probe preparation, position patients effectively, and conduct ultrasound and related procedures.
- Assist in patient mobility, lifting, and transportation between beds and imaging devices.
- Provide comprehensive patient education throughout the procedure process.
- Monitor patient conditions and communicate essential information to the physician.
- Generate and document patient reports in electronic medical records, manage billing processes, and electronically submit acquired images for access and retrieval.
- Facilitate continuity of care through effective collaboration with other departments.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on ultrasound equipment, troubleshoot issues, and report deficiencies to management promptly.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure essential supplies are available.
- Collect and analyze data to measure and track quality management initiatives.
- Support departmental initiatives related to process improvement and problem-solving.
- Provide instruction and clinical guidance to students.
