The Patient Care Technician at Northwestern Memorial embodies our commitment to excellence in patient care. The Patient Care Technician will work collaboratively under the supervision of Professional Registered Nurses to deliver high-quality direct and indirect patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care:
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, and blood pressure for both adults and neonates.
- Monitor and document patient intake and output, including output from drains.
- Utilize cardiac monitoring and oximetry equipment.
- Perform EKGs and adhere to infant security protocols.
- Conduct newborn hearing screenings and capillary blood glucose tests.
- Execute phlebotomy and apply fetal monitor equipment for pregnant patients.
- Discontinue heplocks and Foley catheters, and administer enemas as needed.
- Collect various specimens including urine, stool, blood, and sputum.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights, particularly emergency alerts.
- Provide nourishment and fresh drinking water to patients, and assist with meal preparation and feeding.
- Deliver personal care including bed baths and peri-care as per nursing procedures.
- Assist in the care of newborns including bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms and assist with patient mobility.
- Support pre-and post-operative care, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Set up and manage respiratory equipment as necessary.
- Prepare patient rooms for medical assessments and assist during procedures.
