Shifts: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
The Patient Care Technician embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM), adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while complying with all relevant policies and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, label, and transport specimens as assigned.
- Obtain 12-lead EKGs.
- Discontinue saline locks and indwelling urinary catheters as directed.
- Discontinue telemetry monitoring packs as required.
- Perform bladder scans.
- Conduct point-of-care testing as appropriate.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs as outlined in their care plan.
- Engage in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN.
- Document patient care data as instructed.
- Support patient ambulation and positioning as per care guidelines.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe clinical environment for patients and staff.
- Assist with post-mortem care as necessary.
- Identify and address learning needs in collaboration with nursing leadership and complete annual training requirements.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance unit efficiency and quality of care.
Additional Responsibilities as a Safety Attendant/Telesitter Monitor:
- Maintain constant visual observation of patients without distractions.
- Notify the care team promptly if a patient requires assistance.
- Monitor and ensure patient safety in the environment, reporting any hazards.
- Conduct care checks per the care plan.
- Adhere to relevant policies and procedures.
Other Duties:
- Answer, screen, and direct incoming calls appropriately.
- Facilitate obtaining hard copies of patient advance directives and ensure they are placed in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Manage admissions using the Electronic Bed Board.
- Ensure readiness of the patient care unit for EMR downtimes and assist with data recovery.
