The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is tasked with preserving over 12,750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185,000 corners across New York City. Our Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP) is dedicated to ensuring that pedestrian (curb) ramps throughout the city adhere to all relevant accessibility laws and guidelines. These ramps are essential for safe and accessible travel, particularly for elderly residents and individuals with disabilities.
We are currently looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Pedestrian Ramp Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This team is engaged in designing and managing pedestrian ramp projects, reviewing designs for various capital reconstruction efforts, setting inspection criteria, providing construction quality assurance and control, and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) throughout the city’s right-of-way.
Reporting to a Senior Manager/Licensed Engineer, the successful candidate will:
- Assess existing pedestrian ramps and develop ADA-compliant design solutions, including geometric layouts and grading.
- Review project plans to ensure compliance with ADA standards.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including internal DOT units, external agencies, contractors, and the community, to guarantee the successful implementation of accessibility requirements.
- Address design challenges and provide technical solutions to accessibility-related inquiries.
- Conduct site visits related to pedestrian ramp design and construction.
- Oversee pedestrian ramp contracts from inception to completion.
In partnership with NYC DDC, our Engineering Team applies its technical acumen and project management skills to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and according to scope. Key responsibilities will encompass:
- Preparing detailed project scopes
- Evaluating project budgets initially and throughout the project lifecycle
- Monitoring and analyzing project schedules
