JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PLANT DESIGN INTERN
Heirloom Carbon Technologies is excited to invite an enthusiastic Engineering Intern to our Plant Design Team for a dynamic 10-week summer internship. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in the practical aspects of designing and optimizing vital Balance of Plant (BoP) systems and material handling circuits. You will contribute directly to the development of systems that empower our cutting-edge carbon removal technology to function on a global scale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support in the design and integration of BoP utility systems, such as instrument air, process water, and cooling loops.
Assist in the creation and upkeep of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and heat and mass balances (H&MB) for auxiliary systems.
Collaborate on designing material handling systems, focusing on the efficient movement and processing of lime and limestone materials.
Aid senior engineers in drafting technical specifications and Requests for Quotations (RFQs) for essential equipment like pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers.
Work closely with the Research & Development team to accurately convert bench-scale data into design parameters for full-scale water and solids systems.
Get involved in equipment inspections and provide on-site support during the commissioning process of utility subsystems when possible.
QUALIFICATIONS
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (preferably in your 3rd or 4th year).
Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
Analytical mindset with the capability to organize complex datasets and assist in technical audits of engineering details.
Excellent communication skills, with a proactive approach to collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams (R&D, Project Engineering, etc.).
Self-motivated and results-oriented attitude, ready to tackle challenges head-on.
Availability to work full-time for the duration of the internship at our headquarters in Brisbane, CA.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with engineering software and tools.
Familiarity with system design and optimization processes.
