We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our expanding Water team in Manchester, Leeds, Chesterfield, or Birmingham. As part of a dynamic and innovative multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to significant projects that enhance the quality of life across the UK and beyond.
This role presents an incredible opportunity to be involved in high-profile and fulfilling infrastructure programs within the water sector. Our collaborations encompass water and sewerage service providers, local government authorities, and national clients, addressing various projects from upgrading treatment facilities to developing sustainable long-term strategies for resilience and growth.
You will join a vibrant local team of accomplished civil engineers, ranging from apprentices to directors, while also being integrated into our extensive national Water team. This position allows you to offer technical leadership, mentor early-career colleagues, and facilitate their professional growth through line management and training initiatives. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to enhance your project and client management skills while further developing your technical expertise, with clear pathways for career advancement.
Recent Projects Include:
- Significant upgrades of sewage and water treatment plants at Wanlip, Matlock, and Worcester for Severn Trent.
- CSO investigations and solutions for Anglian Water and Scottish Water (Caledonia Water Alliance).
- Local infrastructure initiatives for Derbyshire County Council and Derby City.
- Strategic consulting for national clients such as DEFRA, Network Rail, and National Highways.
Our work spans the complete project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and design to execution and asset management — providing variety, challenge, and purpose.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with engineers, modellers, environmental scientists, and specialists to deliver high-caliber water and wastewater projects.
- Engaging in all design phases, from initial concepts to detailed design and technical documentation.
- Utilizing creative and practical approaches to address real-world engineering challenges.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices in design.
- Leading the technical execution of key projects and reviewing the outputs of team members.
- Effectively managing project scope, budgets, and timelines.
- Establishing strong client relationships, providing regular updates and technical insights.
- Mentoring and supporting junior professionals within your team.
