Position Requirements: This opportunity mandates a comprehensive background check through the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and residency within Washington state. Candidates who have undergone a thorough WSP background check previously will benefit from an expedited screening process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective consecutive or simultaneous Spanish interpretation between government representatives and Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
- Maintain professional decorum, articulate expression, and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Ensure accurate conveyance of concepts and meanings between speakers.
- Demonstrate proficiency in grammar, clarity, and tone in both English and Spanish.
- Follow speaker directions, provide clarifications as needed, and manage conversation flow with professionalism.
- Avoid side conversations with LEP individuals and refrain from engaging in disputes.
- Adhere to ethical standards and compliance protocols.
- Bring relevant experience from sectors such as education, healthcare, legal, medical, or government.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least one year of on-site consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience.
- Two professional references validating your interpreting skills.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Full fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Possession of one of the following certifications:
- Washington State DSHS Language Testing and Certification (LTC).
- American Translation Association (ATA) certification.
- Accreditation from a recognized higher education institution.
Security Requirements: All interpreters must hold an active Washington State Patrol background check or possess a higher-level background clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with various Washington state agencies including the Department of Labor & Industries, the State Patrol, and the Department of Agriculture.
