Harvard University Housing & Real Estate (HUHRE) operates within Harvard Campus Services, a comprehensive organization within Harvard’s Central Administration. HUHRE is dedicated to enhancing the University’s educational and research missions by providing Harvard affiliates with an extensive range of housing and real estate services in University-owned properties. These properties are strategically located, affordably priced, and expertly managed to meet the needs of residents and tenants. HUHRE also serves as the asset manager responsible for Harvard’s commercial spaces and institutional assets, overseeing leasing and operations for University-owned space utilized by affiliates and commercial spaces rented by private retailers in the Cambridge and Greater Boston area.
We manage a diverse portfolio of initiatives and assets aimed at supporting the Harvard community, which includes:
- Overseeing leasing, management, and renewal of Harvard-owned housing and office spaces, as well as commercial real estate portfolios.
- Facilitating community engagement and programming opportunities.
- Managing relationships with external partners and vendors.
- Collaborating with the broader University community to develop and implement University-wide strategies and policies.
- Supporting new housing and real estate development projects across Cambridge and Greater Boston.

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Property or Area Manager, the Property Operations Assistant (POA) will be responsible for the daily oversight of a designated group of buildings within the HUH portfolio. The primary function of the POA is to coordinate and manage maintenance services and systems (HVAC, MEP, etc.) to ensure the seamless operation of either a large building or a small collection of buildings.
This role is vital in guaranteeing that the properties are managed in alignment with the physical, financial, and service standards set by Harvard Housing, Campus Services, and Harvard University.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensure that properties are maintained in accordance with the safety and quality standards established by HUH, covering all physical aspects of buildings, systems, and grounds.
- Conduct daily monitoring of buildings and log activities to verify that all systems, including mechanical, heating, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, fixtures, carpentry, doors, locks, and windows, are functioning properly.
- Identify and diagnose technical issues, coordinating their resolution.
- Oversee the completion of repairs to systems and equipment.
