Join the Department of Emergency Management as a Public Safety Communications Dispatcher, where you will play a critical role in responding to emergency and non-emergency calls. Under general supervision, you will effectively manage incoming 9-1-1 and other urgent communications from the public and safety agencies. Utilizing a state-of-the-art computer-aided dispatch system, you will coordinate police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
This position operates 24/7, requiring flexibility with various shifts, including day, swing, and night shifts, as well as weekends and holidays. You must be prepared to work 8 to 10-hour shifts, with the possibility of overtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and assess emergency/non-emergency calls, gathering vital information efficiently.
- Dispatch appropriate emergency service units while accurately maintaining incident records.
- Evaluate reports of emergencies and relay information to field personnel promptly.
- Monitor and coordinate the status of incidents and emergency response personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information from law enforcement networks.
- Familiarize yourself with the geography of the area to identify potential hazards.
- Respond to inquiries regarding emergency services and determine appropriate actions and referrals.
