About the job
Are you a confident individual who enjoys working outdoors and thrives on engaging with people? This is your opportunity to contribute to a safe, livable, and clean city. As a Public Space Enforcement Officer in Amsterdam, you will be the visible face on the streets—approachable, engaged, and assertive. You ensure that everyone living, working, or enjoying leisure activities in Amsterdam can do so in a pleasant environment.
Whether you're walking through the vibrant city center, patrolling a bustling square, or overseeing a quiet residential area—no day will be the same.
In Amsterdam, it's all about balance: between liveliness and livability, between freedom and responsibility. You play a crucial role in maintaining that balance. You address individuals regarding their behavior, provide information, and take enforcement actions when necessary, all while remaining professional, calm, and fair—even under pressure.
Your responsibilities include:
Supervising public order and livability: addressing disturbances, mediating conflicts, and acting on violations.
Traffic and parking: handling complaints and intervening in cases of obstructive or dangerous parking.
Waste and environmental issues: identifying and addressing illegal dumping or improperly presented waste.
Events and hospitality: checking permits and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Awareness and prevention: informing residents, visitors, and businesses about rules and appropriate behavior in public spaces.
Your daily tasks will include:
Proactively patrolling on foot, by bicycle, or using other means of transportation.
Advising, mediating, and warning—while taking action when necessary.
Working data-driven: your efforts are guided by reports, data, and collaboration with neighborhood teams.
Maintaining communication with residents, businesses, and visitors.
Collaborating closely with fellow enforcement officers, the police, the enforcement organization THOR, and other partners in the city.
Participating in briefings and sharing findings and observations with your team.
In summary: you are a visible, approachable, and decisive presence in public spaces.
