Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular testing of communication equipment, including SSB, VHF, UHF, Epirb, Sart, and visual signaling devices, adhering to set schedules.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on radiocommunication equipment and accessories such as antennas, batteries, and converters as required.
- Maintain the Radio Communication Logbook accurately.
- Provide the Commander with weather forecasts, Notices to Mariners, emergency communications from other vessels, and any other relevant information for the vessel's operation.
- Notify the Officer of any defects that impair the functionality of the vessel's Radio Station equipment.
- Keep the Radio Room organized and clean, ensuring the proper maintenance of spare equipment, tools, measuring devices, and documentation.
- Update the inventory of all fixed and consumable materials for which you are responsible, including record books.
- Assist during inspections of the Radio Station equipment by providing requested information.
- Request necessary supplies for the onboard station and submit them to the Officer for processing.
- File communications, radiotelex, proof of radio communications, weather bulletins, Notices to Mariners, and other relevant information systematically.
- Handle international communications as required.
- Supervise and ensure the proper execution of repairs on equipment under your responsibility by land workshops.
- Maintain continuous radio communication service on appropriate frequencies during your shifts.
- Ensure all relevant information is communicated during shift handovers.
- Identify and respond to distress signals promptly.
- Stay informed about new regulations governing your role.
- Keep all GMDSS publications up to date.
- Continuously monitor the latest developments in maritime communication regulations.
