The Reading Room Assistant embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program. This role ensures compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. Under the general supervision of a Department Administrator or Manager, the Reading Room Assistant plays a crucial role in minimizing interruptions and enhancing workflow to support physician activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the ordering, tracking, locating, and filing of radiology films, jackets, and requisitions.
- Facilitate the pick-up and delivery of X-rays as necessary.
- Prepare X-rays for radiologists to ensure timely readings.
- Verify that all X-rays are read before filing and accurately record results.
- Address and resolve Quality Assurance issues effectively.
- Communicate efficiently with the healthcare team regarding file room operational efficiency-related issues.
- Handle reception desk duties, including appointment scheduling.
- Welcome patients in a friendly and professional manner to ensure high-quality customer service.
- Accurately check patients in for exams and complete necessary documentation, including CPR forms.
- Maintain meticulous filing of requisitions and handle challenging situations professionally.
- Provide patients with proper written instructions and preparation information for exams.
- Retrieve necessary jackets and charts for scheduled appointments.
- Manage inter-departmental mail deliveries.
- Keep the appointment schedule and requisition files up to date.
