THE JOB
At VEG, we don’t just hire assistants; we cultivate future emergency veterinarians. As a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will dive right into the action from your first day—supporting your team, providing comfort to pet parents, and acquiring hands-on experience in real-time. You will be involved in every aspect of care—from triage and treatments to the joyful moments of tail wags. Whether your goal is to become a credentialed technician or to explore your passions, we are here to support your journey every step of the way.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Serve as the first welcoming face for incoming patients, triaging them and guiding them toward the necessary care.
- Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with our credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support care during all phases: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Advance into more complex responsibilities as you grow in your role.
