JOB SUMMARY
The Relief Staff Pharmacist plays an essential role in delivering pharmaceutical care within the assigned areas of the pharmacy. Under general supervision, this position ensures the safe and effective procurement, preparation, and distribution of medications while adhering to the highest standards of practice.
The pharmacist demonstrates expertise in both sterile and non-sterile compounding, executing a range of professional duties including the inspection, labeling, packaging, and management of pharmaceuticals. A deep understanding of regulations surrounding compounding is crucial.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, and the functions listed are representative of the tasks expected from individuals in this classification. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
All employees must comply with the Joint Commission Requirements, emphasizing a commitment to cultural sensitivity, patient care rights, safety, teamwork, and continuous education. Adherence to hospital policies and procedures, including service standards and ethical conduct, is mandatory.
A. DISPENSING ACTIVITIES
* Evaluate and interpret medication orders for accuracy, appropriate dosing, and potential interactions, especially for neonatal and pediatric patients.
* Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and nursing staff to clarify orders when needed.
* Accurately dispense medications, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
* Prepare and verify sterile and non-sterile formulations, including topical and systemic dosage forms.
B. INVENTORY AND RECORD KEEPING
* Maintain accurate records for controlled substances and investigational drugs managed by the pharmacy.
* Oversee inventory control and address any discrepancies in the absence of management.
C. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
* Support and adhere to all hospital and departmental guidelines.
* Comply with USP797, USP795, and USP800 standards for compounding.
* Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations.
