NYC Parks proudly oversees more than 30,000 acres of public land, which encompasses 1,000 playgrounds, 36 recreation centers, 66 swimming pools, and 14 miles of beautiful beach. Our core mission is to create and maintain clean, safe, and accessible parks while delivering enriching cultural and educational programs for New Yorkers of all ages. We strive to empower all New Yorkers to lead active and intellectually fulfilling lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventures, technology, education, and the arts. Our diverse recreation programs include specialized exercise classes, youth sports, senior activities, summer camps, and complimentary afterschool programs throughout the city's parks and recreation centers.
The newly constructed Mary Cali Dalton Recreation Center spans 65,000 square feet and will serve as a cutting-edge community hub, providing a multitude of programming options and amenities designed to foster learning, recreation, and fitness. This center will include a gymnasium, fitness rooms, and multipurpose spaces that will host a variety of programs including Afterschool activities, Summer Camps, Robotics, and Arts & Cultural initiatives.
Major Responsibilities:
- Under close supervision, perform general maintenance tasks.
- Execute light repairs and upkeep of buildings and grounds across various public structures.
- Operate hand and powered grass mowers among other equipment.
- Collect litter, rake debris, dig pits and ditches, and clear snow and ice.
- Maintain cleanliness of both the interiors and exteriors of structures; repair sidewalks and road depressions.
- Adjust, lubricate, and perform minor repairs on equipment and machinery. After appropriate training, operate, maintain, and winterize chlorination and filtration systems in both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
- Assist in the operation of chemical sewage treatment apparatus and related equipment.
- Provide informational, educational, and safety services to the public both in-person and via telephone.
- Compile simple reports on tasks performed.
