The Security Officer I plays a vital role in promoting the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM). This position requires adherence to the organization's Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, and all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Under the guidance of the Security Leadership, the Security Officer I is responsible for following established protocols to safeguard the hospital's assets from theft and damage. This includes ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, associates, and medical staff, as well as investigating and resolving disturbances. Officers may also assist in restraining patients when directed by medical or clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and manage incidents within the hospital to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for supervisory personnel regarding incidents.
- Notify local authorities (police and fire) as necessary and compile detailed reports for supervisors.
- Conduct routine patrols, both on foot and via vehicle, of hospital premises to ensure the safety of patients and property and deter unauthorized access.
- Investigate reports of theft, hazardous conditions, and criminal activity, addressing any security or safety concerns.
- Monitor access control systems, fire alarms, duress alarms, and security cameras.
- Manage traffic flow to ensure unimpeded access for emergency vehicles and patients/visitors.
- Oversee restricted area security by checking and locking doors as per established protocols.
- Provide escorts for staff to their vehicles upon request.
- Transport deceased individuals to the morgue and release them to authorized personnel according to policy.
- Respond to emergency codes as per departmental guidelines.
- Report any activities or deviations from standards that may require disciplinary action to the department manager.
- Enforce hospital policies and procedures as directed.
- Present a professional and approachable service image to encourage individuals to seek assistance or report concerns.
- Conduct contraband searches for the safety of patients and employees as required.
- Monitor individuals or situations to ensure safety as necessary.
- Oversee staff parking permit processes and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
