The Team You’ll Work With:
The Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) is dedicated to improving environmental quality for all New Yorkers. We focus on addressing historical injustices and inequities, while fostering economic opportunities for everyone. Utilizing science-based analysis, policy development, and capacity building, MOCEJ leads the city's efforts to reduce its contributions to climate change, prepare for extreme weather, and empower all New Yorkers to shape the city's future.
The Problems You’ll Solve:
As a key member of MOCEJ’s Clean Energy Team, the Senior Advisor will leverage legal and policy expertise to enhance the City’s clean energy initiatives, engage with regulatory bodies, and influence legislative priorities. Working under the guidance of the Deputy Director of Clean Energy, you will collaborate closely with MOCEJ teams and the NYC Law Department to offer legal and policy counsel on complex environmental and energy issues. This role is vital in ensuring that MOCEJ’s policies and initiatives comply with laws and regulations while furthering the City’s climate and clean energy objectives.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring compliance of MOCEJ policies, projects, and programs with Federal, State, and local laws.
- Reviewing and drafting agreements with City, State, Federal, and private entities, including grant agreements, procurement contracts, Project Partnership Agreements, MOUs, and NDAs.
- Conducting research and analysis on specific legal questions and preparing memoranda and opinions detailing findings, recommendations, and conclusions on various environmental and energy law matters.
- Managing the City’s involvement in energy regulatory proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the New York State Public Service Commission, and coordinating across City agencies to align priorities.
