About the job
Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are at the forefront of revolutionizing electric aviation. Our flagship eVTOL (electric, vertical take-off and landing) aircraft, Valo, is designed to achieve 'zero emissions' and will establish unparalleled safety standards in aviation.
We are committed to breaking away from traditional aerospace practices to redefine best practices in the industry. As we rapidly evolve from a prototype-focused company to a scaling SME, the upcoming years are crucial for achieving our ambitious targets, including obtaining airliner-level safety certification by 2028.
What to Expect
As a Senior Electric Propulsion Unit Modelling Engineer, you will be an integral part of a highly skilled and motivated engineering team. Your focus will be on developing robust and optimized performance models for Electric Propulsion Units (EPU) that are critical to our aircraft's powertrain architectures.
This hands-on role involves engaging with innovative engineering concepts and creating high-fidelity system and component models that enhance our understanding of propulsion system performance across various architectures.
Your daily tasks may include developing detailed models for motors, inverters, and power distribution using tools like Matlab/Simulink/Simscape, running trade studies that influence architectural decisions, as well as collaborating closely with the Battery and Power Distribution teams to ensure system-level coherence.
Your Responsibilities
Develop sophisticated motor, inverter, and power distribution models for powertrain systems.
Conduct comprehensive performance analyses of the powertrain system.
Execute trade-off and optimization analyses to determine the most suitable architectures based on aircraft requirements.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to effectively integrate powertrain components.
Contribute to the advancement of simulation tools and methodologies.
Support validation and testing efforts to ensure the accuracy of models and system performance.
Adhere to industry codes and standards.
Develop thorough model documentation, standards, and methodologies.
Your Qualifications
A Master’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience in modeling and analysis of electric propulsion systems.
Strong proficiency in Matlab/Simulink/Simscape and related modeling tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Familiarity with aerospace industry standards.
