About the job
As the Senior Laboratory Coordinator at the School of Medicine, your primary responsibilities will include:
1. Overseeing and coordinating the technical operations of laboratory assistants and the laboratory infrastructure.
2. Developing and implementing laboratory policies and procedures, and managing operational policies in collaboration with research staff.
3. Facilitating communication between scientific supervisors, researchers, and School staff to resolve operational challenges and enhance technical efficiency. Providing guidance on technical procedures, methods, and equipment to ensure compliance with operational standards.
4. Installing and maintaining laboratory equipment in accordance with state regulations and developing quality assurance programs related to equipment calibration and maintenance.
5. Conducting safety and quality checks in laboratories, including biological safety assessments and maintaining facilities per best laboratory practices.
6. Monitoring laboratory personnel for adherence to safety and occupational health standards.
7. Ensuring that laboratory staff are properly trained in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and equipment requirements.
8. Managing inventory and overseeing the distribution of laboratory materials to researchers as needed. Monitoring and restocking supplies when necessary.
9. Leading and training new staff and researchers (volunteer students, technicians, and graduate students) on laboratory procedures.
10. Managing laboratory finances, developing budgets, analyzing trends, and preparing reports.
11. Conducting specialized experiments independently and contributing ideas for the improvement of experimental protocols and methods. Developing new protocols as required.
