About the job
About Us
At Amidon Heavy Industries, we are pioneering the future of the offshore industry with our innovative unmanned systems. Our team is dedicated to developing cutting-edge uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) that autonomously deploy tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for the inspection of subsea pipelines, telecom cables, and offshore infrastructure. We strive to revolutionize subsea awareness, delivering superior reliability at a fraction of the cost compared to traditional crewed vessels.
The Role
We are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer who will play a pivotal role in the mechanical design execution of our autonomous surface vessel platform. In this hands-on position, you will collaborate closely with the CTO to align on the overall system architecture, while taking ownership of significant mechanical subsystems from detailed design through to fabrication, integration, and field testing. This role is ideal for an individual who has experience in shipping hardware and understands the practical challenges that designs may face in real-world conditions.
Responsibilities
Lead the detailed design and execution of major mechanical subsystems within the platform architecture.
Translate system-level requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs.
Create CAD models, drawings, and release packages for fabrication and assembly.
Design structures, mounts, housings, and interfaces that can withstand marine loads and environments.
Oversee the integration of mechanical systems with propulsion, electrical, and autonomy hardware.
Assist with prototyping, assembly, and on-water testing.
Diagnose field failures and refine designs based on operational data.
Collaborate with vendors and fabricators to finalize design for manufacturability (DFM) and supply chain processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
4 to 8 years of experience in designing and deploying mechanical systems across marine, robotics, aerospace, defense, or industrial sectors.
Proven experience in transitioning hardware from prototypes to fielded systems.
Strong proficiency in CAD and drawing techniques, ensuring designs are suitable for fabrication.
Hands-on experience with hardware, tools, and test setups.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while coordinating with a system-level technical lead.
