The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) plays a crucial role in overseeing the city’s tax revenue laws with fairness, efficiency, and transparency to foster public trust and compliance while delivering exceptional customer service.
Within the DOF, the Mayor’s Office of Pensions and Investments (MOPI) provides expert guidance on the City's pension system, deferred compensation plan, and other retirement-related matters. MOPI undertakes comprehensive research and analysis of policies, strategies, benefits, budgets, and investments, both locally and globally, to support the mayor's trustees in making informed decisions.
We are currently looking for a Senior Pension & Investment Advisor to join our team. This position reports directly to the Chief Pension Investment Advisor and encompasses a variety of key responsibilities:
- Act as a senior advisor while assisting in the management, planning, and administration of New York City pension funds.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of investment issues affecting asset classes and manager performance.
- Attend Retirement System investment meetings and represent the Mayor and Commissioner of Finance as needed.
- Perform detailed fundamental and quantitative analyses on assigned asset classes.
- Provide recommendations on manager selection, team building, investment policies, asset allocation, and strategies.
- Assess and manage investment, operational, and legal risks, including understanding risk models and their implications on portfolio risk.
- Analyze capital markets and economic data to provide insights on valuation, expected returns, risks, and investment trends.
- Gather and interpret investment reports from managers, consultants, and peers, as well as relevant industry and regulatory information.
- Facilitate discussions with consultants and potential investment partners regarding prospective opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues and the Comptroller's Bureau of Asset Management to ensure comprehensive analysis is integrated into the selection and evaluation of investment managers.
- Assist in the search and selection of portfolio analytics and related software.
- Deliver timely investment reviews, reports, and presentations to the Administration's trustees and stakeholders.
- Summarize critical data to highlight current and future trends and opportunities effectively.
- Build consensus on significant issues through formal and informal channels.
