Join our dynamic Genetic, Environmental, and Occupational Toxicology (GEO Tox) team at AbbVie, where your expertise will contribute to ensuring patient, environmental, and employee safety. As a Senior Scientist II, you will be instrumental in conducting risk assessments for occupational, environmental, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance. Your work will span AbbVie’s diverse therapeutic areas, encompassing various modalities from early discovery through to the development of marketed products.
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced toxicologist with a strong background in risk assessment to enhance our Development Sciences, Pre-clinical Safety team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly analyze literature and toxicology reports, employing methodologies such as read-across and in silico data to generate comprehensive toxicology product risk assessments. This includes providing toxicology support for extractables and leachables, health-based exposure limits (HBELs), permitted daily exposure limits (PDEs), occupational exposure limits (OELs), environmental risk assessments (ERA), and other contaminant evaluations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on safety banding for implementation company-wide.
- Participate in relevant external working groups to influence industry standards and maintain awareness of new regulations.
- Mentor and guide junior team members within GEO Tox and related departments.
- Oversee and coordinate studies at contract research organizations (CROs) for environmental assessments to support regulatory submissions.
- Manage studies at CROs focused on worker safety to ensure proper occupational safety and handling.
- Support the assessment and implementation of relevant new approach methodologies (NAM).
- Provide technical assistance in occupational health categorization and chemical registrations, adhering to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS/CLP) and preparing Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
