About the job
Waymo is a pioneering autonomous driving technology company dedicated to becoming the world's most reliable driver. Originating as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has tirelessly worked on developing the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility access while significantly reducing traffic-related fatalities. The Waymo Driver powers our fully autonomous ride-hail service and is adaptable across various vehicle platforms and use cases. To date, the Waymo Driver has successfully completed over ten million rider-only trips, having autonomously navigated over 100 million miles on public roads and executed tens of billions of miles in simulation across more than 15 U.S. states.
The Fleet Response team is at the forefront of accelerating the safe deployment of Waymo's autonomous technology. This team operates on the cutting edge of our autonomous driving operations, providing necessary assistance in ambiguous or complex scenarios where the Waymo Driver requires extra context from human Fleet Response Operators (FROs). Our team is focused on innovating solutions that combine both on-vehicle and off-vehicle resources to expedite the deployment of our self-driving vehicles on the road.
Your Role:
- Utilize offboard resources to aid our self-driving vehicles in navigating highly ambiguous or complex situations.
- Design and implement safe, robust, and reliable solutions to address real-world challenges in autonomous driving.
- Collaborate with onboard engineering teams to anticipate and strategize for potential issues at the limits of our self-driving capabilities.
- Engage closely with our users, the Fleet Response Operations team.
- Contribute to mission-critical systems and infrastructure that support Waymo’s advanced fleet.
- Explore a wide range of challenges, including web applications, distributed systems, data analysis, and more.
