At Upstart, our mission is clear: we strive to significantly lower the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. Our innovative approach harnesses creativity, experimentation, and cutting-edge AI technology to enhance access to credit, empowering millions to achieve financial clarity and confidence.
As a pioneering AI lending marketplace, we collaborate with banks and credit unions to broaden access to affordable credit through our intelligent and user-friendly technology. Our platform executes over one million predictions per borrower using more than 1,800 signals, enabling smarter, fairer financial decisions for our vast customer base. Behind these impressive statistics is a commitment to ensuring that credit is never an obstacle to financial progress.
Embracing a digital-first approach, most Upstarters enjoy the flexibility to perform their best work remotely, collaborating with teammates across more than 80 locations in the US and Canada. We believe in fostering strong in-person connections through team gatherings, planning sessions, and creative interactions. Whether you prefer working from home or joining us at one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City (opening Summer 2026), we provide the support to thrive in your chosen environment.
If you are passionate about solving significant challenges, eager to innovate purposefully, and motivated by meaningful work, we invite you to connect with us.
The Team
As part of Upstart’s Event Bus, Experimentation, and gRPC team, you will play a crucial role in developing frameworks and tools that support Event Driven Architectures, facilitate the safe and measurable rollout of new features, and enhance efficient service-to-service communication. We take pride in owning the build process and libraries for our primary programming languages: Ruby, Kotlin, Python, and TypeScript. Our platform products are designed to empower Upstart engineers, ensuring ease of use, performance, data quality, observability, and security are our guiding principles.
In your role as a Senior Software Engineer on this dynamic team, you will be empowered to design and implement high-impact, cross-functional solutions that affect nearly every service within Upstart. We are a close-knit, high-impact team contributing to Upstart’s North Star Architecture, and we are looking for a product-oriented engineer excited to drive innovation in Event Bus, Experimentation, and gRPC tooling.
