About the job
At Headway, we're on a transformative mission to establish a mental health care system that is accessible to everyone. Our innovative technology connects individuals with exceptional therapists through the first software-enabled national network of insurance-accepting providers.
With 1 in 4 people in the US experiencing treatable mental health conditions, the lack of insurance-accepting providers makes therapy prohibitively expensive for many. Headway is committed to creating an inclusive mental healthcare system by simplifying the process for therapists to accept insurance and expand their practices.
Founded in 2019, Headway has evolved into a diverse national network comprising over 60,000 mental health care providers across all 50 states, who have collectively impacted more than 1 million patients. As a Series D company, we've raised over $325 million in funding from leading investors including a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures, and Health Care Service Corporation.
We aim to make your time with us the most rewarding of your career. Join us in our quest to revolutionize mental healthcare for the better.
About this Role:
Building trust is essential in our mission to make mental healthcare more accessible and affordable across the United States. Patients share sensitive information, payers expect robust controls, and providers require dependable, secure infrastructure. Trust Foundations is dedicated to instilling confidence in our products by protecting user data. We create out-of-the-box identity, access, and secure data platforms that empower other engineering teams. Our goal is to ensure that the most secure path is also the most efficient, allowing clinicians, patients, and payers to place their trust in Headway.
This is an exciting time for our growing team, and we are looking to fill multiple roles at both mid and senior levels. As a Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer on our Trust Foundations team, you will contribute by writing production code daily while shaping the long-term vision for trust at Headway. You will translate open standards such as OAuth 2.0/OIDC, RBAC/ABAC, and envelope encryption into scalable building blocks, integrate privacy-by-design and reliability principles into our developments, and mentor engineers across the company in trust-first thinking.
Your Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate core trust primitives - authentication providers, authorization engines, encrypted data stores, and tamper-evident telemetry.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system security and user experience.
- Advocate for best practices in secure software development.
