The Staff Accountant will play a vital role within our Accounting Team, overseeing fixed assets, reconciling daily sales between Oracle and POS systems, and managing the submission and remittance of sales tax returns to state and local tax authorities. We seek an individual who can create efficiencies and work autonomously, particularly someone with experience in the restaurant industry and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
Core Responsibilities
As a crucial contributor to the monthly closing process, your responsibilities will include:
- Accurately preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations with meticulous attention to detail.
- Analyzing general ledger accounts to identify and record necessary accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications.
- Collaborating with the management team to ensure timely completion of tasks aligned with weekly and period-end close schedules.
- Assisting with financial statement inquiries at both store and corporate levels.
- Preparing sales tax calculations and ensuring the timely submission of periodic sales tax returns.
- Managing fixed asset entries and balance sheet reconciliations, partnering with the Fixed Assets Manager to resolve discrepancies.
- Compiling schedules and supporting documentation for audit requests.
- Contributing to special projects, ad hoc analyses, and reporting initiatives in collaboration with the management team.

- Within the first three months, develop a comprehensive understanding of sweetgreen’s accounting practices and processes.
