The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press is seeking a dedicated junior-to-mid-level litigation attorney to join our Local Legal Initiative (LLI) and support our various legal programs. This role encompasses collaboration with LLI attorneys across several states including Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, to provide essential pro bono legal services to news organizations and individual journalists engaged in enterprise and investigative reporting at both state and local levels.
The Staff Attorney will engage in a comprehensive range of state and federal impact litigation, addressing critical issues such as access to judicial records, freedom of information, libel, and other First Amendment matters. Additionally, the role involves contributing to our amicus curiae efforts and pre-publication review processes, as well as facilitating training sessions for journalists and news organizations.
This full-time position operates under the guidance of the Director of the Local Legal Initiative. While the Reporters Committee is headquartered in Washington, D.C., we welcome applications from remote candidates.
Compensation for this position will range from $120,200 to $133,600, depending on experience. Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2026.
