The Strategic Buyer will spearhead strategic category management across various subcategories, reporting directly to the Head of Strategic Sourcing within our Global Supply Chain organization. This dynamic role integrates strategic sourcing, operational procurement, and project-based sourcing activities in a fast-paced environment. The Strategic Buyer will be instrumental in our strategic sourcing initiatives, ensuring that we successfully scale our operations. The ideal candidate will possess a technical or engineering background with experience in the medical device or automotive industries, where quality, precision, and regulatory compliance are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement
• Formulate and implement sourcing strategies that align with company objectives, focusing on cost, quality, innovation, and sustainability.
• Identify, assess, and cultivate new global suppliers, ensuring they meet technical and quality standards.
• Oversee complex request for quotations processes.
• Negotiate long-term contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier development plans.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings, maintain a robust pipeline, and execute these initiatives.
• Conduct market analyses, benchmarking studies, and risk assessments to optimize the supply chain.
Operational Buying
• Manage daily procurement operations, including order placement, delivery tracking, supplier performance monitoring, and resolution of invoice discrepancies.
• Ensure a steady supply chain to meet production and project timelines.
• Keep procurement data accurate within the ERP system.
Project Procurement
• Lead procurement efforts in cross-functional product development or industrialization projects.
• Facilitate new product development by ensuring timely sourcing of prototypes and essential production materials.
• Drive early supplier involvement to enhance design-to-cost and manufacturability aspects.
• Manage sourcing for project-specific equipment, tooling, and components.
Supplier Management
• Build strong supplier relationships through regular business reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assess supplier performance based on key metrics, including quality, cost, delivery, innovation, and sustainability.
• Conduct high-level meetings with supplier leadership for business reviews and escalations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate effectively with R&D, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Project Managers, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs teams.
• Actively participate in project meetings, design reviews, and risk management discussions.
• Ensure procurement practices align with the company’s quality systems, such as ISO 13485.
• Strive for continuous improvement in procurement processes and drive excellence across the function.
