Our Summer Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for students to engage in temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) employment from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026.
As the City’s leading capital construction project manager, the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is responsible for building vital civic facilities that serve New Yorkers daily. This includes creating and renovating essential structures like firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, and senior centers, along with enhancing vital infrastructure across all five boroughs. Our team is dedicated to delivering quality construction projects involving roadways, sewers, and water mains, ensuring a resilient and healthy urban environment.
The DDC’s Summer Internship Program is designed for a select group of graduate students to acquire significant experience in architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management within a public service framework. Interns will gain practical technical experience through hands-on field assignments or specific office tasks, complemented by mentorship from senior-level technical staff. Furthermore, interns will participate in seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training to understand the complexities of upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure.
The Safety and Site Support division consists of six sections that provide essential technical support to our Infrastructure and Public Buildings divisions. Services include hazardous materials investigations, environmental assessments, geotechnical services, land surveying, construction safety compliance, and material testing. The division also conducts site quality audits and inspections of manufacturing plants.
The selected Safety and Site Support Summer Intern will assist with several programs and processes, including Construction Safety, Quality Assurance, Land Surveying, Geotechnical Investigations, and Environmental and Hazardous Materials Services. Responsibilities will involve preparing monthly reports, revising procedures, maintaining various applications and databases, and supporting the division with data review, scanning, and archiving.
Note: Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. The NYC Department of Design and Construction does not provide sponsorship for international employees for visa applications or status changes, including STEM/OPT visas.
