The Summer Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for students to engage in full-time (35 hours per week) employment from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026.
As the primary manager of capital construction projects in New York City, the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is responsible for building essential civic facilities utilized by New Yorkers on a daily basis. We oversee the creation and renovation of structures including firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, senior centers, and more, while also enhancing critical infrastructure. Our dedicated team executes roadway, sewer, and water main construction projects across all five boroughs, ensuring the delivery of quality infrastructure that is vital for a healthy and resilient urban environment.
The DDC Summer Internship Program offers a select group of graduate students the chance to gain meaningful experience in architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management within the realm of public service. Interns will acquire hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments or targeted office work, coupled with mentorship from senior technical staff. Furthermore, interns will participate in seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training to understand the complexities involved in upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure.
The Project Controls division is integral to DDC’s mission to deliver projects punctually and within budget. It provides institutional data analytics services and facilitates the adoption of best practices in scheduling, cost management, and risk assessment. The division comprises professionals with expertise in data analytics, risk management, cost control, and scheduling, offering project-level support as well as programmatic and advisory assistance.
We are currently seeking a summer intern for the Project Controls Unit to contribute to our mission of timely and budget-conscious project delivery. Responsibilities may include:
- Managing data and documentation for construction projects in New York City, including document management and data analytics.
- Utilizing tools such as PowerBI for dashboard creation and descriptive statistics, Python for developing machine learning and AI solutions, and Azure-based tools to automate tasks and data flows (e.g., Synapse pipelines and Logic Apps).
