Job Description
As a Tailman, you will play a crucial role in supporting our pipe crew with the installation of essential underground utilities and infrastructure. Collaborating closely with the Operator and Pipe Layer, you will ensure the safe, precise, and efficient installation of storm, sewer, and water systems at heavy civil construction job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation of storm drains, sanitary sewer systems, and water mains.
- Set and secure pipes to meet specified line and grade standards under the guidance of the Pipe Layer and Foreman.
- Communicate effectively with heavy equipment operators using hand signals and radios.
- Install gaskets, couplings, and fittings as required.
- Utilize laser levels and grade rods to verify accurate grade.
- Backfill and compact soil around installed pipes, ensuring proper bedding and compaction.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Adhere to all safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and tools.
- Perform general labor duties as assigned.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and small equipment.
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Basic understanding of construction principles and practices.
- Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel out of town and work overtime as needed.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is a plus, but not mandatory.
