Position Overview
As a Telecommunications Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, programming, coding, maintaining, and repairing a diverse range of equipment that supports analog, digital, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and emergency telephone (E911) switching services.
This position is part of the IBEW Union.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the telephone exchange system.
- Facilitate signaling, channel setup, digitization of analog voice signals, and encoding for analog, digital, and VoIP phones.
- Implement database modifications for the addition, deletion, and relocation of telephones.
- Oversee E911 emergency and dispatch systems.
- Update database configurations related to servers and switching environments as part of work order support.
- Configure and maintain the switching environment.
- Perform software upgrades and updates on equipment.
- Ensure system settings and configurations are backed up for disaster recovery.
- Communicate technical issues and solutions with various support vendors and document them through support tickets. Act as a technical liaison for customers when engaging with subcontractors and vendors.
- Troubleshoot network hardware and software applications, including secure telephones.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve customer telephone service issues.
- Address daily customer challenges through effective problem-solving.
- Monitor trunk usage designed for simultaneous transmissions linking major switching centers or nodes.
- Compile and provide telephone billing data to NASA, including trunk usage and telephone traffic reports.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, reports, and logs, both manually and in electronic databases.
- Propose improvements to enhance work quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Comply with OSHA, NASA, and company safety standards.
- Assist in training new personnel as needed.
