As a Transportation Manager, you will oversee the delivery and service department, typically managing a team of fewer than 40 drivers. You will design and enforce policies and procedures related to scheduling, rates, routes, and driver assignments, ensuring the operational efficiency of the department. Building and maintaining strong customer relationships is vital, as you'll be responsible for addressing and resolving customer service issues effectively. Furthermore, you will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the Delivery & Service Department by:
• Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and retaining top talent for the team
• Providing team members with the necessary tools to excel in their roles
• Facilitating training, coaching, and performance reviews, along with recommending pay increases
• Resolving employee relations issues promptly
• Supporting team members as needed
• Developing and implementing departmental plans, policies, and procedures
• Participating in annual Leadership & Development training sessions
• Conducting safety and team meetings, as well as quarterly reviews
• Completing additional tasks as assigned by management
• Evaluating the performance of drivers and staff on an annual basis.
Reporting and Budget Management:
• Preparing the annual budget for the Delivery & Service department for review by the Supply Chain Center Director
• Reviewing and approving department payroll
• Analyzing cost statements to identify excessive expenses and recommending cost-saving measures
• Auditing and approving invoices from leasing companies
• Managing the performance of the truck leasing company to ensure maintenance and repairs are completed on time
• Generating relevant reports, including backhauls and weekly key performance indicators
• Conducting monthly audits to ensure fuel compliance.
Routing, Scheduling, and Compliance:
• Planning, reviewing, and adjusting driver schedules to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
• Continuously analyzing driver and vehicle assignments for potential consolidation
• Evaluating proposed schedules and rates, preparing and distributing necessary adjustments
• Conducting route analyses to uncover cost-saving opportunities
• Monitoring driver performance and addressing mis-deliveries
• Overseeing compliance with DOT regulations and driver hours of service.
