Berkadia Affordable Tax Credit Solutions, a division of one of the largest real estate firms in the nation, is seeking a full-time Vice President of Underwriting for our tax credit equity syndications team. The successful candidate will utilize their specialized knowledge and expertise gained through education and experience to manage the analysis and underwriting of proposed multi-family real estate investments eligible for low-income housing tax credits. You will work closely with our Acquisitions teams, guiding investments through the underwriting process from proposal to closing. Reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting, you will be encouraged to lead, innovate, and contribute ideas throughout the transaction process in a collaborative team environment.
Innovation drives our vision in commercial real estate, and in this role, you will:
- Act as the primary contact and coordinator for all underwriting functions, ensuring the thorough and timely completion of due diligence, including market studies, operating expenses, loan documents, cost reviews, environmental assessments, and sponsor/guarantor evaluations.
- Collaborate with dedicated underwriting personnel to prepare comprehensive credit approval packages.
- Present credit approval packages to the Berkadia Affordable Tax Credit Solutions Investment Committee.
- Work alongside underwriting team members to conduct financial modeling and updates.
- Serve as the main liaison for legal counsel during the underwriting process, ensuring compliance with Berkadia Affordable Tax Credit Solutions policies and LIHTC guidelines.
- Participate in the development and execution of policies, procedures, and quality control measures.
- Identify and escalate issues that require further investigation or may delay approval or closing.
- Engage with asset management, accounting, investor relations, acquisitions, as well as developer and investor clients to facilitate timely and efficient transaction servicing and closings.
- Manage relationships with clients and vendors effectively.
- Coordinate special projects as assigned.
