Trueline’s client is looking for a Vision Systems Research and Development Engineer to become a key player in their Biddeford location. In this dynamic role, you will spearhead the creation of cutting-edge automated inspection systems, guiding projects from initial concept through to full integration. By harnessing the power of software, machine learning, and hardware, you will make a tangible impact in the fast-paced environment of manufacturing R&D.
Your Responsibilities as a Vision Systems R&D Engineer:
- Direct the design and development of tailored automated vision systems, encompassing hardware selection, image acquisition, processing, and user interface.
- Choose, train, validate, and implement machine/deep learning models for inspection tasks such as defect detection, measurement, and classification.
- Work closely with engineering teams, technicians, and clients to successfully integrate these vision systems into both new and existing production and automation lines.
- Enhance the broader automation strategy by designing and programming machine control logic (including PLCs, HMIs, and robots) linked to vision and non-vision systems.
- Create and uphold comprehensive technical documentation for prototypes, software architecture, and user manuals for vision systems.
- Oversee R&D project timelines and deliverables to ensure that performance objectives are achieved or surpassed.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial networking systems based on Ethernet to facilitate seamless integration.
Qualifications for the Vision Systems R&D Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Proficient in software development languages such as Python, C++, and/or C#.
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and open-source computer vision libraries.
- A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in deploying or supporting deep learning models is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a knack for tackling undefined challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills, thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to travel for system deployment and customer support.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with deploying applications to edge devices (embedded vision/ML).
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, robotics, PLCs, or HMI design.
- Familiarity with industrial networking protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, OPC UA).
- Previous involvement in manufacturing R&D or production automation settings.
