ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
The National Housing Trust (NHT) has been at the forefront of creating and preserving affordable housing for nearly 40 years. Our work encompasses building, preserving, and financing affordable housing while leveraging our expertise to develop resident-centered solutions that enhance the affordable housing sector.
NHT operates Washington View Apartments located at 2629 Douglass Road SE. In alignment with our dedication to the residents, we are collaborating with Building Bridges Across the River and the Collaboration for Equitable Health on a multi-year initiative addressing social determinants of health in the East of the River community, known as ViewStrong.
ABOUT ViewStrong, Powered by the Interrupt
ViewStrong, powered by the Interrupt, is thrilled to introduce a community garden at Washington View. This garden will feature 16 garden beds, providing fresh vegetables free of charge to Washington View residents.
POSITION
We are looking for a resident of Washington View to join us as a Youth Apprentice to care for the new garden beds on the Washington View campus. This is a seasonal position starting on April 26th, 2025, and concluding on October 26th, 2025. The Youth Apprentice will be employed by the National Housing Trust and will receive training from the Farm Team at Building Bridges Across the River, along with mentorship from the Lead Gardener. We encourage applicants aged 15-20 from Washington View who have a passion for growing food to apply.
This position is based in Washington, DC, with no remote work options available. The average work schedule consists of 11 hours per week.
