About the job
As a Youth Care Specialist (YCS) at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, you will play a crucial role in the daily lives of our residents. Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with a dedicated team to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of each child in our care, while providing compassionate, trauma-informed support.
The YCS will supervise residents, manage facility maintenance, assist in meal preparation, and meet the basic physical, medical, and emotional needs of the children. You will serve as a positive and empathetic adult presence, offering guidance and fostering supportive learning experiences that empower residents to build on their strengths, develop solutions, and nurture hope for their future.
Operating within a Trauma-Informed Care framework, you will work closely with the treatment team to support the individualized goals of each resident and, when appropriate, assist with family reunification or alternative permanency arrangements. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to work in different homes as directed by a supervisor or on-call leader.
Housing is provided on-site, and you will be expected to remain on campus for the entirety of your scheduled shift. This role demands cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of our residents, ensuring that every child is treated with dignity and respect.
The position involves daily interaction with children and adolescents who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including occasional physical aggression. Given that our residential programs operate 24/7 throughout the year, you will need to be available during holidays and adverse weather conditions. Physical stamina is necessary as the role requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as the ability to execute approved crisis intervention techniques when needed to ensure safety.
