About the job
About Rhoda AI
Rhoda AI is building the next generation of humanoid robots, combining high-performance, software-defined hardware with advanced foundational and video world models. Our robots are designed to adapt to real-world environments and handle new, untrained scenarios. The team includes researchers from Stanford, Berkeley, and Harvard, working together to create a new computing platform for physical work. With over $400 million raised, Rhoda AI is investing heavily in research, hardware innovation, and scaling up manufacturing.
Role Overview: Junior Mechanical Engineer
This is a hands-on role based in Palo Alto. The Junior Mechanical Engineer will help design and improve our Generation 0 robot platform. The work focuses on integrating third-party components, such as rails, cables, and fixtures, while keeping safety, reliability, and streamlined system design in mind. The role also involves designing and iterating custom end effectors, fingers, and mounts for a range of tasks. As part of a small, focused team, this engineer will have significant ownership of hardware projects from the ground up.
What You Will Do
- Develop and refine mechanical components and assemblies for robotic systems, including cable management, rail systems, fixtures, and integration hardware.
- Design custom end effectors, fingers, and mounting hardware for specific tasks, managing the prototyping process from concept through testing.
- Integrate third-party components into the overall system, ensuring compatibility and function with existing hardware.
- Identify and implement design improvements with an emphasis on safety, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support design reviews and manufacturing.
- Participate in quality assurance and hardware testing: set up tests, collect data, and document results.
- Assist with root cause analysis for hardware issues and suggest design changes.
- Collaborate with senior mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure designs meet full-system requirements.
